Huntress
Branding design that artistically captures New Zealand’s beautiful outdoors and what it means to be a huntress, hunting and foraging native forests and wild coasts while keeping the perception of premium quality wine.
Janine Rickards is a self confessed huntress by name and nature. A Martinborough wine maker who has released her own wines as Huntress. Janine is the ultimate hunting, fishing, diving and foraging chick. It’s her idea of heaven. She wanted a brand that reflected not only her passions in life, but her passion for ballsy wine, wild foods and nature.
We came up with a concept for a raw, black pen illustration that captures winter and summer scenes in the wild. While it has been created as one illustration, the winter section partners with red wines and summer with rose and white wines. Winter shows a bush scene that includes kereru, kowhai, ferns, fallen logs, camp oven and drying meat while summer showcases tui and flax in a coastal scene that shows Whiterock with a kete of crays, kina and seaweed.
The red foiled logo contrasts perfectly off the black and white. The logo is strong, yet classic type with a unique u that is made up from a deer print. The pairing of nature illustration and bold, sophisticated logo has been designed to appeal to 30+ wine and food lovers that care about New Zealand’s premium, seasonal delights.

“I have worked with the dynamic duo from DustyandLulu on two projects. My wine brand Huntress and also the Harvest Festival rebranding in 2021. Mike and Lindie are really amazing to work with, I just loved the process of distilling down the essence of Huntress. The brand though small has had massive interest and recognition and I believe this has a lot to do with the story telling from the branding. Their ability to showcase the heart of a brand.
