White Rock Olives
Client: White Rock Olives
14 yrs ago that locals Ray & Jenny Lilley purchased some land we now know as White Rock Olives. They ‘fell upon’ Olives as a new hobby, as the climate and terroir were perfect for the robust trees. With trial and error over the last 14 yrs, they have lovingly grown olives which they have sold on to another local olive producer. Deciding to participate in the Martinbrough Olive Harvest Festival prompted them to contact us to design them a brand.
Ray & Jenny were incredibly forward thinking and therefore such a pleasure to work with. They wanted to create a logo that was very contemporary and looked nothing like other olive logos.
White rock is on the East Coast of the Wairarapa and has incredible sharp and rugged rocks. We wanted to explore these rock forms, simplifying the shapes till they became an abstract representation. We integrated these stylized rocks into the top of a oil droplet, creating a subtle yet dynamic icon bringing together their unique location with the iconic oil drop shape. We choose a contemporary square slab serif to perfectly contrast with the curve of the droplet and give a real sense of strength yet simplicity. We placed the text inside the icon creating a bold logo that really pops.
So far we’ve produced some stunning ply wood signage but we can’t wait to see it on their olive oil packaging when the time comes.
