Lucky for some
Client: Chrystal Chain Gang
Project: Beanding and packaging
Crystal Chain Gang artists and designers Leanne and Jim have been collaborating since 2003, creating innovative glass works that are collected and exhibited internationally, and luckily for us, not only live around the corner in Martinborough but are lovely, fun and inspiring people. It’s a real pleasure to work and play with them.
Leanne and Jim came to us with a need for a new brand, and to our delight a brief that got us really excited. They wanted a gang patch, words we didn’t expect to come out of their mouths. In contrast to the delicate nature of glass, they wanted a brand that was unexpected and added humor in a traditionally serious industry.
Their work features a lot of bird related design so we created a pirate budgie at the heart of the patch. This sits perfectly onto customized bones, with one end being bone like, and the other bird claws. Being solid white played beautifully with the line art of the budgie. To reinforce the patch nature of the design we added in our chapter we trust, then found some latin Fortunatas pro aliqua, meaning lucky for some, cheekily stating their pieces are collector items, and those privileged enough to have one are very lucky.
We then designed and screen printed box packaging for chandeliers. The new logo features prominately, but we added a fun twist on the standard box information graphics like this way up, fragile etc. Designing new graphic symbols, as well as adding humor like saying “Drop beats not this box”, “Fragile as”, “Be cool, recycle” and “Top”.
