Client: Mexicali Fresh
Project: Retail Instalation
Mexicali Fresh have just opened a bright and vibrant new restaurant in K-Road and we got help with the fit out by creating some humorous installations. The brief was to take inspiration from Loteria, which is a Mexican game similar to Bingo, but uses images on the cards. It’s iconically Mexican, but we were to bring a fresh new take to it, along with taking the piss out of the most famous Auckland Stereotypes.
We designed four characters, the first being a classic mulleted bogan, wearing a black ACDC inspired tee and cut of denim shorts, drinking Jack Daniels and rocking out. The relationship to Loteria, is that these characters are all skeletons.
The North Shore dude is playing on all the stereotypes of a rich surfer, so he’s got his branded cap and board shorts, loving holding his surf board and hanging ten.
A must do stereotype of Auckland is the Jaffa. We illustrated a perfectly manicured, uber trendy man, with his Trilby hat, designer eye wear, skinny pants, drinking fancy wine, with wads of cash in his briefcase.
Finally, with the restaurant being in K Road, we had to illustrate a tranny, with an over the top wig, exaggerated eye brows, eye shadow and lipstick. Posing it up large in frilly underwear and high heels.
