Client: Martinborough Rugby Football Club
Project: Brand Identity
Martinborough Rugby Football Club was established in 1904, with a proud history and a strong presence in the Wairarapa. The past ten years have seen the Club struggle at times as the structure of the township has changed. Fewer young men have an interest in rugby and that has effected the Club.
To help generate more interest and portray the club as professional and friendly, we have created a new brand identity. The identity needed to represent both senior and junior levels of rugby. We wanted to incorporate a crest, to reflect the beginnings of rugby, but done in a more modern way. We wanted to combine this with a strong sports feel, adding the stripes of the rugby socks in the clubs colours of green and black. We’ve used the initial M to highlight Martinborough as this is the point of difference to other rugby clubs.
Part of the brand identity development has been the creation of a stag that we see as a potential icon or mascot of the club. A stag is a strong animal that represent the both the strength of the players but also the rural / hunting aspect of the local community.
