Up-cycling take two
Client: The Oversew Fashion Awards Inc.
Project: The Oversew Fashion Awards
The Oversew Fashion Awards is an annual event showcasing creative and talented people who can turn old, dated clothing into new ‘upcycled’ fashion. The awards are focused on sustainability and showing the world the artisan craft of up cycling.
Following on from it’s launch last year we needed a new concept that not only perfectly reflected the whole up-cycling concept of the awards, but gave a unique new twist from last year screen printing the whole poster onto vintage fabrics. This time we’ve incorporated using different fabric to create something new. We illustrated a female and male character onto brown paper which gives the idea of recycling. We cut out the shape of the dress to reveal a piece of fabric behind the paper, filling the dress area. We love the idea of playing with opposites to reinforce the idea of using a wedding gown and making a suit, or using a swandri and making a wedding dress. So we selected a more male fabric to go behind the female dress shape and a floral fabric behind the male. This creative approach gives the viewer an immediate idea of hand made, artisan fashion and what the event is about.
We created a strong typographic poster to add to the handmade craft feeling, playing with hand illustrated fonts to reflect and wrap around the central illustrated figures.
